70+ Sample Text Messages To Customers
What makes a great text message?
While there’s no clear-cut answer, all SMS marketing campaigns have a few things in common. They all contain texts with:
- Short copy: We recommend 160 characters for each text.
- Powerful calls-to-action to create a sense of urgency.
- Short links to your website, promo pages, calendar or other content to encourage your customers to take action by clicking the link.
- Your name and contact details for further communication.
To help you get started, use these SMS templates for your business texting needs. Find your use case from the list below and pick one of the sample text messages from the list.

Why These Examples Work
Your welcome messages have to be engaging, relevant and concise.
They need to interest and engage your subscribers immediately. The goal is to have your new potential customers either communicate with you with a two-way text message, or take action in another way. That might mean visiting your website or signing up for a free trial.
Avoid lengthy, detailed messages that don't directly address a customer's wants and needs. Only use short, friendly texts that show you have value for your customers. Everything else is unnecessary information.
The text message samples above immediately tell your new subscribers that they’re in the right place. These texts are designed to entice them with something interesting, whether it’s a gift, free trial or simple offer to engage further.
Notice that they all engage with your new subscriber and encourage them to take action right away.

Why These Examples Work
Speed to lead.
You want to respond to new leads as fast as possible.
When a warm lead fills out a webform on your site or asks for details about your product or service, you should reach out that day. (Or within 24 hours at the latest.)
By sending an automated text message, you can instantly see if that person is a good fit for your product or service. As you see in these samples, you can text the potential customer a few qualifying questions and ask them to reply to your text. Or you can ask that person to hop on a quick call or fill out a short questionnaire on your site.
In any case, you’ll find out quickly if that person will get value out of your product or service. Ideally, you can figure that out, before offering this person a full sales demo.
That means you’re respecting your potential customer’s time and yours.

Why These Examples Work
Let's face it: you can't afford to lose a customer just because they didn't check their schedule.
So what can you do?
You gently nudge them by sending appointment text reminders.
These reminders contain details about their appointment, meeting or event. At the same time, they give them the option to text back and reschedule if they can’t make it.
You’ll want these messages to be short and sweet when you’re reminding customers about an upcoming webinar, in-person appointment or one-on-one meeting.
Remember to include your contact details, such as your name, phone number, or link for the event if it's online.
At Salesmsg, we’ve seen appointment text reminders work for so many customers.
For example, a reminder text boosted attendance for an online seminar by 90% for Michal Koziol of Bizness Rebels. (90% of the people who attended said they only showed up because they got the SMS reminder!)

Why These Examples Work
Customer support texts will be different from sales or marketing text messages.
The goal of most other text messages is to inform the customer of something, while customer service messages aim to help the customer with a specific task.
Use polite and conversational texts to make your messages friendly and accessible. If you're responding to an issue they have, be genuinely apologetic.
However, make sure you don't spend all your text messages apologizing. You'll have to provide the customer with an actual solution to leave your customer satisfied.
You can also include freebies and discounts to compensate your customers for their troubles.
This shows them your organization values them. Unannounced coupons and deals go a long way toward building or repairing customer trust.

Why These Examples Work
Time-sensitive text messages aim to get your customers to act quickly.
Usually, this will be in the form of time-sensitive deals, coupons or unique VIP experiences. Your message should trigger the feeling of FOMO (“fear of missing out”), if they don’t act now.
You can also use special events like a customer's birthday or holiday to send timely text messages with a special offer.
SMS contests are another good way to engage your recipients with your messages. If you are running a contest, make sure to give customers the ability to opt-out and the rules. (Also, check the legal rules on running contests in your country before you run a contest like this.)

Why These Examples Work
If you have a product with a free trial offer, you can use text messages to help move your most qualified leads through your sales pipeline.
The goal of these simple text messages is to overcome buyer’s objections. You can also direct customers towards support materials, tutorials and other documentation to help answer any questions they may have.
By overcoming resistance early in the process, you can move past friction points and get more paying customers.
Pro tip: If you’re automating these types of follow-up text messages, you can use custom fields inside Salesmsg to pre-populate your customers’ names.
The other samples reference one-on-one meetings with the potential customer. If you’ve met a potential client before, it gives you a good reason to reach out to see if they’re still interested in your product or service. You can think of these sample text messages as simple nudges to move them through your sales process.

Why These Examples Work
Feedback and review messages are vital to improving customer experience.
They allow you to get inside your customer's minds to determine what they like, dislike and want from you. It's a great place to take stock of where you stand and what you can do better.
But, you need to make these review messages as easy on the customer as possible.
Remember, they're not gaining anything from this.
They're doing this purely to help you.
So make it simple for them.
You can ask customers to review your service on a scale of 1 to 5, like in the example above. Or link directly to your reviews page or survey to give your customers an easy way to provide feedback.
The timing is important for these messages. Ideally, you want to ask customers for feedback after they’ve had a chance to check out your product or service.
Think about sending an automated text message asking for feedback between 4-6 weeks after your customers purchase your product or service. (Be sure to set it up, so it does NOT send to anyone who has refunded your product during that time.)
Please note: This timeframe may vary based on what your product or service does—and how long it takes to test it.

Why These Examples Work
Sending text confirmations is pretty similar to reminder messages.
Why?
They both aim to communicate something meaningful to the customer.
However, unlike reminders, text confirmations can be pretty detailed. For example, you may need to include:
- The booking or transaction ID - for easy reference purposes.
- Your company name - lets them know who the sender is.
- Links to support pages - for further assistance and clarity of information.
- You can also include a thank you note as a courtesy.
But remember: Only give the information that’s necessary and relevant to that specific customer.
Often these text messages will be automated and more transactional in nature. However, that doesn’t mean they have to be boring. You can always inject your personality if it fits your brand. Or at the very least, keep it tight and simple.

Sample Payment Reminder SMS Message #6
Friendly reminder: Your membership is up for renewal on 12/31. Renew right now and get a free gift: (link).
Why These Examples Work
Payment reminders can be tricky because it's easy to make them sound harsh.
After all, you're asking the customer to pay up—there's no nice way to put it, right?
Except, there is.
Instead of harshly reminding the customer to pay up immediately, gently inform them about it. You shouldn't try and force them—simply nudge them to pay.
The key here is to ensure your message doesn't make them panic.
Your message should ease any concerns, remind them of what they owe, and give them avenues to contact you if they have questions. This way, they have the information they need to take action on your payment calmly.

Why These Examples Work
The goal of the VIP messages is to make your customer feel special.
Maybe, they’ve been a great customer and you want to reward them. Or, they’ve been with you forever and you want to show how much you value their loyalty.
These messages are part thank you and part special offer.
They not only help to deepen the relationship you have, but they can also lead to more sales by offering exclusive discounts that you’ve created just for them.
You can also include a deadline for your offer to create a sense of urgency that will nudge them to take action.
What to Know Before You Start Sending Business SMS
It's easy to get excited about SMS and want to start texting customers right away.
However, recent regulations have added a bit more red tape to business texting.
To start sending texts, you must get a few things right. The good news is that many businesses aren't up to date on the latest regulations, which means even less competition for you.
Here are some essential elements of SMS compliance you need to keep in mind:
- Choose the right type of phone number for texting, you can choose between short codes, toll-free, and a local number
- Get your business approved by the carriers to start sending text messages.
- Become a master of reducing your bounce rate and opt-out rate.
- Know the right types of messages to send so your texts don't get flagged.
- As I mentioned, get permission to text your leads and customers.
At Salesmsg, we walk our customers through how to handle all this compliance, so it’s as simple as possible. Once you’re set up, texting itself is very easy.
To learn more about SMS compliance and getting approved to send business text messages, check out my post, the ultimate guide on getting your text messages delivered.
1. The KISS Principle: Keep It Short And Simple
Text message marketing is unlike any other form of marketing. While you can be more descriptive in formats like email marketing, text marketing has to be clear and concise.
You have a character limit of only 160 characters for each text message.
That's it.
You have to catch their attention, engage with them, and prompt them to take action with the same number of characters in this sentence!
That's why it makes sense to:
- Drop unnecessary details
- Use power and action-oriented words
- Only include information relevant to the customer
If you don't do this, you won't be able to convey your information and engage customers quickly enough.
Remember, texting is dialogue-based too, so you don’t need to communicate everything in the first message.
2. Convey Emotion and Tone Through Your Message
People text because it's casual, friendly and convenient, right?
And that's precisely what a business SMS should be—warm, accessible and expressive.
If you want people to engage with your texts, you must make them more human.
Think about it.
What text message would you pay more attention to?
One that's warm and friendly?
Or one that's devoid of any emotion and is obviously written by a first-gen AI?
But how do you convey emotions in a business SMS?
Using expressive words like "happy," "sorry" and "excited" is an excellent place to start. Mentioning emotions is a good way to prompt the customer to relate and empathize with your message. Once they start relating to it, they'll engage with it!
However, there are other options.
You can also use emojis and GIFs to convey your message without exceeding the character limit.
3. Align Your Business SMS With Your Brand’s Style
Another essential thing to remember is to align your texts with your brand's style.
For example, if your brand is a fun and friendly company, your text messages should reflect that. They should use friendly words, warm expressions, and emojis like this:
Date plans tonight?? 💕 Head to Parisio to taste some real French romance. Get 15% off total bill via YourFoodApp: (link).
But why is this important?
Because it establishes consistency.
Your customers aren't engaging with your company solely through texts. A light-hearted, funny SMS message will look out of place if they're used to professional and formal interactions with your brand.
You'll be interfering with their expectations of your brand, thereby confusing your company's identity in their minds.
4. Use The Right Text Signature
Often, your customers won’t have your business’s number saved.
Which means that your text signature plays a massive role in your text message conversions.
Why?
It shows the reader who this message is from—making your business message look more legitimate.
However, writing SMS signatures differs from constructing email signatures.
Unlike email signatures, text signatures must be brief due to the character limit. Remember, since you only have 160 characters to work with, the bulk of it has to be dedicated to your message—not your signature.
Can you imagine using this as a signature for your SMS:
Will send a text immediately. Thanks!
Joey, ABC Services, 1234 Park Avenue, CA, joey@thisisjoey.com, (789) 5557777
No, right?
You won't have much space for your actual message!
A much better option would be:
Will send a text immediately. Thanks! - Joey @ ABC Services
It shows the reader who is texting them in as few characters as possible. Aim to replicate this for all your business texts.
