Why did we build an API?
We build an API to stay on the cutting edge. It was a decision we made to upgrade the “guts” of how Salesmsg functions to match how all modern apps are built. For those familiar with the term, it’s called a “headless platform.”
First, you build an API and then you build everything on top of it. That means you can engineer the functionality however you want and design the interface to display however you want. This is why built the API.
Now everyone can engineer or design a custom version of Salesmsg to look and work how they want using the published open API standards.
Who did we build the API for?
There are three audiences who benefit from the SMS API. The first one is Salesmsg. As they say, we're “eating our own food” by acting as its own customer through the API. This way as we add new capabilities, functions, and features, existing Salesmsg web, mobile, and Chrome users benefit.
That brings us to the second audience. If you or your company have the engineering skills or resources, you can customize and grow your SMS sales, marketing, and support systems as you see fit.
The last audience who benefits from the Salesmsg SMS API are third party development shops. Maybe that's you. Now you can integrate our application into your CRM, marketing automation, or customer support system, making it more “all in one.”
Innovative Use 1: Visualizing Conversations
The API gives you the ability to customize how you order and visualize contacts and conversations. For instance, if the current way you view conversations or contact is by list view, but you want to see them in a grid view, you can program and design that view.
Another example is let’s say you what to sort you contacts or conversations by first name or last name, you can program the display of that information by any variable in the API documentation.
You can really think of the API as your way to customize a point of view, regardless of how it’s currently organized and displayed inside of Salesmsg.
Innovative Use 2: Demographic Driven Text Messages
Collecting and using demographic data in your messages is an incredibly powerful way to boost engagement and conversions. A simple example of how you could use the SMS API would by role or title.
For instance, if your marketing targets to sales, marketing, and support professionals, you could collect demographic information based on role or title. You could then leverage this information to send role specific messages.
A marketer might want to talk about one specific feature of your product or service, while a support or sales person might be more interested in another. With the SMS API combined with your demographic data, you can created demographic base conversational messages that convert at new levels.
Innovative Use 3: Conditional Logic Driven Text Messages
Behavior driven messaging is another sure fire way to boost engagement and conversions. An immediate way to leverage this is to either send more messages to those more engaged and less to those who are less engaged.
A contact might initially engage with your company, but all of a sudden “ghosts” your follow up campaign. You could, after a certain number of messages, stop engagement with that contact. On the flip side you could trigger more specific messages to that contact the more they open and click links.
Using the SMS API like this really comes back to boosting your brand. Your reputation is based on increasing the number of positive experiences your messages and content deliver and minimizing the number of negative ones. Conditional logic is an approach you can use to take advantage of this!
